| POLKA DOT HAS TALENT Polka Dot Has Talent is back! Following the great success of last year’s competition where over 40 acts entered and seeing 12 acts go through to a nail biting finale where Josie Clifton walked away with the £1000 first prize. TICKETS ARE £3 EACH AND ARE AVAILABLE FROM RECEPTION. SEATING IS LIMITED SO GET YOUR TICKETS EARLY. Polka Dot is proud to announce that this year the first prize will again be £1000. The competition will take the same format as last year with the heats and semi final being at Polka Dot Academy and the Final at the South Holland Centre. You can make your act as original as you like whether it is singing solo or as part of a group, maybe a dance routine to your favourite track or even a combination of the two. Jugglers and magicians have not been seen yet so start practising. You might even have a talented pet waiting to make its stage debut. Remember that costumes and props could be the secret to that extra point from the panel of independent judges that could see you go all the way. The dates for this year competition. First heat 31st July 6pm Second heat 21st August 6pm Semi Final 3rd September 6pm Final 5th September 2.30pm Each act will be given the opportunity to use the Studio’s available for rehearsals over the summer holidays. Please book at reception as spaces are limited. You can enter a maximum of three times and each act must be no longer than three minutes. The competition is only available to students of Polka Dot Academy. So get rehearsing on that song or dance routine or think of something new and exciting and enjoy the competition. Ballroom Ever wanted to have a go at Strictly Come Dancing? Our class is available for 1 ½ hours offering you the facility to be able to come and go as you feel. Add some Latin flavour and international zest into the mix and you've got a Zumba class! Thursday 8-9pm £5.50 Fun to Dance Join our fun and friendly adult dance class, meet new people and get fit too! A dance class which focuses on developing strength, flexibility and coordination whilst incorporating a variety of FUN dance styles too! A low impact class with great music and moves. Suitable for complete beginners and those who enjoy a fun alternative to a gym workout. Tuesday 8-9pm £5.50 Belly Dancing Belly Dancing is a joyous, uplifting activity, and our aim is to make learning belly dancing a fun and accessible form of exercise. Our classes really are for all women, regardless of age or fitness level. No previous dancing experience is necessary, and there is definitely no need to “have the belly for it”. Would you like to be part of this year's professional pantomime SLEEPING BEAUTY produced by Polka Dot? Maybe you came to see PETER PAN, SNOW WHITE or CINDERELLA and were aching to get on the stage and give it your all! Come along to the auditions and see if this could be your year to shine! This year we are looking for an all singing, all dancing chorus of boys and girls aged 8-21 who are full of personality and can move well. Auditions will take place on Friday 16th July at the Polka Dot Academy from 5pm - 7.30pm. Children must be no younger than 8 by September 1st 2010. NO PARENTS will be allowed into the auditions whilst they are taking place. If you wish to audition, you must fill in a form which can be collectd at reception and bring it with you on the day. The form will also require you to attach a recent photograph.. passport style is probably best. Please note that you will not need to bring any audition material with you on the day as it will be provided Polka Dot. |

We have two very exciting workshops that are taking place throughout the summer holidays! August 9th - 13th we have our Senior Summer School which is for ages 12 and above. We are doing 'Wicked in a Week' which is being held at Polka Dot Academy. It will be £75 for the week. August 17th: We are holding Dance Like Diversity Workshop at Polka Dot Academy. 10am-4pm and it will be £15 for the day. But book now as there are limited places!! We have been selected from 115 groups to go and perform Billy Elliot at the Victoria Palace, London!! Only 10 groups have been selected and we are very very proud of our children and teams whose efforts clearly won the hearts of the Billy Youth Theatre Panel. The performance os on Sunday July 18th at 7pm! Also don't forget to come and support us this week, 30th May - 2nd June, at The Cresset, Rightwell, Bretton Centre, Peterborough as we will be performing Billy Elliot! It's our Sponsored Walk on Sunday 16th May, which is this Sunday!! Please remember to collect your sponsorship forms from the Academy reception for the sponsored walk! All money raised will go towards the new studio theatre which is planned for bay 3! 12pm start at Wyevale Garden Centre, Crowland... Work your way back to the Academy. All necessary stewards will be in place for this event! On your return come and enjoy a well earned burger or hot dog... there will be a vegetarian option also! Don't forget there will be a prize for the best fancy dress costume! |

| FUNDRAISER FOR STUDIO THEATRE | 18/03/2010 |
We are sure that you are aware that we have now launched our fundraising porject to convert Bay 3 into a studio theatre. Together with SPOTS we shall be continuing with regular events to ensure that this project is seen to fruition! By having a studio theatre in Spalding opens the doors for so many people who do not need to have the full use of the South Holland Centre for thie projects, it gives groups and organisations the opportunity to perform plays/shows/workshops which are a little more unusual and which would ordinarily be too much of a financial risk for them to do at the full scale theatre in town. The main benefit of that is of course to the performers - be it the children, adults or disabled sector. Come and join us for our first community fundraiser on May 16th when we shall be doing a sponsored walk to Crowland and back to the Academy, where there will be a barbeque awaiting the hungry walkers - no matter what time they return! |
